CARBON FOOTPRINT

Global warming is a topic that affects us all. Esprit cares about this crucial issue, and is therefore committed to acting responsibly to reduce energy consumption and greenhouse gas emissions (GHG) in our own operations.

As a brand with over 700 directly managed retail stores and over 6,000 partner stores, there is great potential to work towards sustainability at the point of sale. Our store concept and equipment have been influenced by our focus on sustainability with a more sustainable store architecture called the Lighthouse Store Concept. As part of this, we use renewable construction materials for the stores and avoid artificial materials wherever possible. Hence, wood and metals are chosen over synthetics and plastic, and we have, for instance, opted not to use aluminum in our stores, as the aluminum production process is heavy on emissions and consumes a large amount of energy and water. By the end of 2016 the more sustainable store concept was implemented in 59% of our own operated stores and global partnership stores.

The implementation of LED lightning in our retail stores is another focus area to reduce our Carbon Footprint. Our first target, implementing LED lighting in 40 Esprit stores by the end of 2016 was achieved on time. LED lighting systems not only help Esprit to save energy and reduce greenhouse gas emissions, the lighting systems are also manufactured and transported in a more sustainable way. For example, in the Esprit store in Heidelberg, the energy consumption per m² could be reduced by 10%.

The efficient transportation of garments is key to reducing our carbon footprint. With garment sources worldwide, we seek the most efficient and environmentally friendly shipping methods. In FY15/16 13% of our goods have been shipped by air.
