The medical centre in Anangpur, Delhi area
SOS Medical Centres are usually set up in areas, which have no access to basic medical facilities. They cater to the medical needs of the children in the SOS Children’s Villages as well as nearby communities.
The SOS Hermann Gmeiner Medical Centre Anangpur caters for the medical needs of approximately twenty thousand villagers living in and around Anangpur. The medical centre provides economical medical aid, particularly in the field of women and child care.
Anangpur is a village adjacent to Faridabad and is about two kilometres away from SOS Children's Village Greenfields. The entire area is underdeveloped in many a ways. There is lack of medical facilities, transportation, and schools. People don't have easy access even to the basic amenities of life like water, electricity and are poverty-stricken.
The SOS Medical Centre provides general OPD (Outpatient Department), laboratory, X-ray unit, labour room, operation theatre - fully equipped for conducting major surgeries, dental room with all facilities, ward with eight beds and a 24 hrs medical store. More than 4.000 patients per year receive treatment of different kinds.
Two medical officers attend the general OPD (Outpatient Department). They are assisted by nurses, lab and X-ray technicians, and a medical assistant. A dentist, an eye specialist and a child specialist visit the medical centre on a weekly basis. The medical centre is very popular among the people of Anangpur Village. In the words of Kanta (a resident of Anangpur village) "SOS Children's Villages is a big help for us as this is the only place in the entire village where we can come anytime for medical emergency". In addition the centre also conducts special outdoor camps for specific medical problems in the area. During these camps the beneficiaries are provided with free medication or immunization and receive information on health awareness and family planning measures.
