Family strengthening Programme
Supporting families and their children in the Delhi area
SOS Family Strengthening Programmes are intended to
- support families at risk of abandoning their children and
- enable children to grow within a caring family environment.
To achieve this, SOS works directly with families and communities to empower them to effectively protect and care for their children, in cooperation with local authorities and other service providers.
Women-led families which are on the verge of collapse due to poverty, death of husband, separation etc. receive assistance as well as children belonging to underprivileged families who have had no opportunity of going to school and who are suffering from malnutrition.
Short- and long-term support
The programmes provide nutritional, educational and health support as well as vocational training, career counselling sessions and job placement support. Families are linked with existing self-help groups; if there is no group, a new one is formed. The programme also aims at raising awareness of hygiene and child rights and improving people's parenting skills. Regular health checks and visits to the homes and schools of the beneficiaries ensure that the families receive the necessary assistance and monitor the development of the children.
The Family Strengthening Programmes at Faridabad cares for 181 children and 72 caregivers in the neighbourhood of the SOS Children’s Village. In Bawana 311 children and 148 caregivers benefit from the various supporting measures. In Greenfields (FSP Anangpur), the Programme extended its support to more than 972 children and 310 caregivers, to meet their day-to-day requirements and educational needs.
