The world’s second Esprit ‘Lighthouse’ Concept Store opens in Antwerp

Esprit has surprised many of the art, design, music, fashion and architecture cognoscenti by opening the world’s second unique Esprit ‘Lighthouse’ Concept Store on the Meir. The launch event took place on the evening of 29 May 2012 in a friendly and easy-going atmosphere with relaxed music, delicious tea cocktails and seasonal health food.

Get-together among friends
250 invited guests were treated to a pure slice of Californian lifestyle in the Esprit Concept Store. The space was filled with laid-back sounds by Belgian band ‘Sweet Coffee’ while special guest singer Sandrine added her own exceptional touch of soul. Antwerp’s most popular catering company ‘Colonia’ (otherwise known as Loes & Krikke) provided energizing health food and the quietly exuberant mood continued throughout the entire evening with lots of positive feedback about the new interior.

Meanwhile anyone who felt like showing off their own creativity could try their hand at designing a wooden tile or wind chimes made from beach elements. Guests could even have their picture printed onto the wooden tiles.

California home – the new ‘Lighthouse’ store concept
The new ‘Lighthouse’ store in Antwerp reflects both the modern spirit of the Esprit brand and its Californian heritage. The store concept was the result of a collaboration between the Esprit Architecture Department and ‘Standard’ – the design and architecture team run by Jeffrey Allsbrook and Silvia Kuhle in Los Angeles. One aspect of the new interior design that particularly impressed the crowd at the opening event was the interplay of natural and near-natural materials. Lovingly created details – such as product displays made from bamboo and braided reed, photographs of Californian landscapes and comfortable seating by Ray and Charles Eames – provide the new ‘Lighthouse’ store concept with an authentic feel. Genuine Californian items such as handcrafted ceramic vases and bowls from ‘Heath Ceramics’, coffee-table art books and a handpicked selection of CDs further complement the special product range.

Making the world a greener place
Esprit also took the opportunity at the Antwerp event to unveil its new activities following up on the 2011 ‘Make Your Wish’ campaign. From the numerous requests submitted worldwide, Esprit will be making five wishes come true this year. During the launch party, Esprit focused on the wish submitted by Jill from Belgium (‘I wish for more trees’) by potting a plant to symbolize the tree planting initiative due to take place in Belgium.

New look – same unique essence
The opening of the Esprit Concept Store on the Meir is part of a transformational program aimed at strengthening the brand over the long term. Launched in September 2011 and continuing until 2015, the program will see the fashion label invest over 280 million euros in the redesign of its directly managed retail outlets.
