ESPRIT STOPS ANGORA WOOL

2013-11-29 Esprit, the international fashion brand for clothing and lifestyle products, has stopped sourcing Angora wool with immediate effect.

“As long as the industry lacks credible certification and proof that it complies with according policies on animal welfare, Esprit imposes a ban on Angora wool”, comments Charles Dickinson, Head of Global Quality Management & Sustainability. “Esprit does not accept methods such as live plucking within its production - neither on geese, ducks or on rabbits. We also believe that it is the brand’s responsibility to maintain a compliant supply chain and to take appropriate action if one of the stakeholders fails to adhere to the standards.”

Esprit will undertake extensive investigation of credible and certifiable Angora farms and in parallel research alternative materials.

The ban on the sourcing of Angora wool will be in place until control and transparency can be obtained in the Agora wool supply chain that assures proper animal husbandry.

Social, environmental and ethical commitment is part of Esprit’s DNA. We strive to be a fair partner for our suppliers, a caring employer for our staff and a responsible company to our stakeholders and the environment, whilst supporting the communities around us. We are firm believers that whatever one takes, one must give back, and this belief is reflected in our respect for people, nature and future generations.
